Marion native singer/songwriter Barrett Baber will harken back to his Arkansas roots for his song selection on this week's episode of NBC's The Voice.

Baber said he will perform his own rendition of country artist Conway Twitty's "I'd Love To Lay You Down" at 7 p.m. Monday as the competition narrows down its field to nine artists this week.

"I think it's a really interesting take on relationships," Baber said of the song choice, adding that it is "lyrically driven" and "such a great story of what is uncommon" when it comes to love.

The song, he said, is relatable to the relationship he has with his wife, Sarah.

Twitty, who spent time in Helena during his childhood, released "I'd Love To Lay You Down" in 1980, the year Baber was born.

Baber's rendition was released on iTunes on Monday afternoon ahead of the show.

Baber said he spent Thanksgiving with fellow artists on The Voice, eating a dinner together and later watching The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 at a local movie theater.

Though he missed his family over the holiday, Baber said he is grateful to still be "in the game" on The Voice.

"It was nice to take a deep breath and say thanks," he said of his Thanksgiving experience this year.

After Monday's show, voting will be open until 11 a.m. Tuesday. Those moving forward as members of the top nine will be announced on air at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Next week, the field of contestants will be reduced to four.

"If I'm still in the game [after Tuesday], it's got to be an undeniable performance that really hits a lot of fans," Baber said, adding that his next song selection would need to be "out of the box" to remain competitive.
