Act of kindness: Hot Springs officer buys medication for man who needed it

A Hot Springs police officer's act of kindness for a man in need of medication the day before Thanksgiving is attracting a lot of attention online.

The Hot Springs Sentinel-Record reported that Officer Joey Williams noticed a man at the intersection of Spring Street and Grand Avenue holding a sign that said "Will work for $2."

The man holding the sign, Charles Couples, told Williams he needed neuropathy medication and was $2 short. Williams told him to go to a nearby pharmacy where his medication would be paid for and ready for pickup by the time he got there.

Williams also paid for several more medications Couples needed, the newspaper reported.

"The man needs his prescriptions no matter what is happening in his life," Williams told The Sentinel-Record. "It's Thanksgiving and it is the right thing to do."

A photo taken by a customer at the pharmacy and showing Williams buying the medication was posted on Facebook, where it had been shared more than 1,200 times Monday morning.
