Fishermen find human remains in Arkansas River

LAVACA — Authorities in western Arkansas are investigating after fishermen found human remains in the Arkansas River.

Sebastian County Sheriff's Lt. Philip Pevehouse says the fishermen called 911 at about 6 p.m. Thursday after making the discovery. He says the remains were found about 1.5 miles downstream from Vache Grasse Park near Lavaca.

He says deputies secured the scene and began processing evidence. A more intensive search of the area will happen Friday.
