Blessing of the Animals

CONWAY — The youth choirs of Conway First United Methodist Church will host a Blessing of the Animals service at 5 p.m. in the church parking lot. Church Anniversary Celebration

PERRYVILLE — Perryville United Methodist Church, 123 Cross St., will celebrate 170 years of service to God and the community, beginning with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., followed by a worship service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Beth Perdue will lead the service, and the Rev. Richard Lancaster of Little Rock, the Central District superintendent, will present a special message. Former pastors and former members will share their experiences at Perryvile UMC during the worship service and during the afternoon celebration service in the Connection Center. Mariachi America Concert

MORRILTON — In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will present the Mariachi America band in concert from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the UACCM Student Union on the west side of the Kirk Building. Admission is free for this family event, which aims to bring awareness and celebration to the heritage and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans around the world. Booths will be set up to share information about UACCM programs and services, including Admissions, the Financial Aid Office, the Adult Education ESL (English as a Second Language) program, Career Pathways, the nursing department and the art department.

The Cantrells Concert

CONWAY — The Cantrells will perform their original folk and bluegrass music at 7 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library. The duo features Emily Cantrell’s songs and rhythm guitar, and Al Cantrell’s contest-winning fiddling in traditional, swing and Irish style. The Cantrells have recorded four CDs of mostly original songs. Refreshments will be served. All library programs are free and open to the public. Arkansas Archeological Society Meeting

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas River Valley Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will meet at 7 p.m. at the Arkansas Tech Museum in the Techionery Building at Arkansas Tech University, 1502 N. El Paso Ave. Jodi Barnes, station archaeologist for the Arkansas Archeological Survey, will give a presentation titled Nails, Tacks and Hinges: The Construction of a World War II Prisoner of War Camp in Southeast Arkansas. Harry Potter Celebration

MORRILTON — The Conway County Library, 101 W. Church St., will have an all-day celebration to mark the release of the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Participants can sample butterbeer lattes and Hagrid’s rock cakes in the morning, and Polyjuice punch and butterbeer cookies in the afternoon. Author Appearance

MORRILTON — Author and screenwriter Jenny Wingfield will give a presentation at 1 p.m. at the E. Allen Gordon Library of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. Her book, The Homecoming of Samuel Lake, is the 2015 selection for If All Arkansas Read the Same Book. Students and community residents are encouraged to attend this free event. Wingfield, a native of Fountain Hill, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French at Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in Magnolia, and taught in the Hope and Ashdown public schools. Southern Living Custom Builder Program Showcase Home

Plumerville Homecoming

PLUMERVILLE — All Plumerville residents and former residents, and Plumerville School graduates and former students are invited to the 2015 Homecoming Reunion. Riverview Baptist Fall Festival

OPPELO — Riverview Baptist Christian School will host its 43rd annual Fall Festival at the school, 123 Riverview Road. Walk to Remember

CONWAY — Registration is open for the seventh annual Conway Regional Walk to Remember, a free event to help families remember an infant who died before or shortly after birth. The walk will be held Saturday at Conway High School’s John McConnell Football Stadium. Check-in will be at 10 a.m., followed by a remembrance ceremony for babies at 11 a.m., then the walk and a balloon release. In the event of rain, the walk will be held in the Conway High School Cafeteria. Food for Fines Program

MORRILTON — The Conway County Library, 101 W. Church St., is holding its Food for Fines Program through Oct. 24. Library patrons can pay their late fees and help out their community by bringing in nonperishable food items. For every item donated, the library will take $1 off a patron’s library fines, up to $10. Fall Bazaar

MAYFLOWER — The Mayflower United Methodist Women will hold their Fall Bazaar at 7 a.m. Nov. 7. The event will feature handmade fried pies for $1 each. Copies of the group’s cookbook Feeding the Flock will be sold for $10 each. The bazaar will include other home-baked items; jams and jellies; and home-preserved pickles, as well as gently used toys, books, collectibles and other items. Christmas Parade

RUSSELLVILLE — The 2015 Russellville Christmas Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3. The theme will be “Christmas Movies.” Required parade entry forms are available at the Recreation and Parks Department office, 1000 E. Parkway, and online at www.russellvillearkansas.org. The entry fee is $25 for a float, and $100 for a commercial entry other than a float. The deadline to enter is noon Nov. 30. The parade’s rainout date will be Dec. 7.
