Conway 14-year-old faces charge in threat to 'shoot up' school

A 14-year-old Conway Junior High School student faces a charge of first-degree terroristic threatening after an online message threatening to "shoot up a Faulkner County school" was found Monday morning.

Any threat to Faulkner County students was "alleviated" shortly after, according to authorities.

According to Conway police, the anonymous post was found about 7:50 a.m. Monday by police on 4chan, an Internet message board. The poster was identified about 9 a.m., pulled out of class and interviewed Monday morning, authorities said.

No weapons were found on the student or in the student's locker, police said.

The student told authorities that the threat was posted as a "dare," Conway police said in a statement.

In a statement posted by Conway Public Schools on its Facebook page, the district said: "The situation was handled expediently by law enforcement and our students and staff were never in any danger. Parents should never doubt that school safety is a top priority for us."

The Conway Police Department and the Faulkner County sheriff's office are investigating the online post.

Police said more information regarding the ongoing investigation will be released as it becomes available.

Also Monday, a UCA student was in custody after an online threat was made against the university over the weekend, authorities said.

Conway police spokesman LaTresha Woodruff said the online threat reports made against a Faulkner County school and UCA are not related.
