Lead Hill slaying victim's stepson charged in 2 deaths

The stepson of one of two victims in Saturday slayings in Lead Hill is charged with two counts of capital murder in the case, the Boone County sheriff's office said Monday.

Authorities said an investigation into the deaths of 61-year-old Helen Froehlich and family friend 60-year-old Frank Simpson led them to Helen Froehlich's stepson, Glen Froehlich, 35.

Simpson was living with the Froehlich family at the time of the deaths.

The victims' bodies were found after a call requesting a welfare check on Cedar Grove Road in Lead Hill on Saturday, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities said Helen Froehlich and Simpson, along with two pets, were shot multiple times.

After a five-hour standoff at a house owned by his father, Glen Froehlich was arrested Monday morning and held without bond at the Boone County jail as of Monday afternoon.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons, felony with a firearm, habitual offender and two counts of cruelty to animals.

Glen Froehlich's family reported him in September and said he was making threats with a firearm. Officers were not able to locate him when responding to the call.

The Boone County sheriff's office said its investigation into the deaths is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
