WASHINGTON — An off-duty Little Rock firefighter has helped save the life of a 9-month-old girl on Interstate 270.
Montgomery County, Maryland police officer James Hermon says he was conducting a traffic stop Sunday afternoon when a man ran up to him with an infant, screaming that the baby was not breathing. The baby's skin appeared to have turned slightly blue.
Hermon cradled the girl in his arms and performed CPR. The infant, identified as Kenzlee Mae Cushman of West Virginia, soon regained consciousness and coloring.
An off-duty firefighter, Brody Channell of Little Rock, then pulled over and offered Hermon assistance.
Emergency responders took the girl to a nearby hospital.
Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen E. Mann says the girl is recovering, and is likely still alive thanks to Hermon and Channell.
