Jury resumes deliberations in Dover excessive-force lawsuit

LITTLE ROCK — A federal jury has resumed deliberations in a lawsuit that claims two sheriff's deputies used excessive force against a Dover boy and his mother.

Eva and Ron Robinson, along with their son Matthew, sued in 2012, alleging Deputy Steven Payton overreacted when he came upon Matthew and his mother while they were walking their dog at night in 2011. Payton has said he was concerned for the woman because he didn't know the two were related and that the boy appeared much larger than his mother.

He said the two were defiant and uncooperative and that he called for backup.

Jurors worked Monday and then resumed deliberations Tuesday.

The family seeks $64,000 for medical expenses, saying the boy was injured by a stun gun, and $1 million in damages.
