Volleyball: Siloam Springs falls to Conway

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Conway's volleyball team continued its recent surge Tuesday against Siloam Springs.

The Lady Wampus Cats won their 13th straight match, dispatching the Lady Panthers 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-17) inside Panther Activity Center.

Conway coach Laura Crow said her team's recent strong play began in Russellville and it's carried over, including handing Greenwood its first conference loss last week.

"They're playing well right now," Crow said. "I can't complain."

Conway junior middle blocker Aly Brinkley led the way for the Lady Wampus Cats (21-4, 8-2) with 11 kills and four blocks.

Brinkley had a pair of kills in game one as Conway turned a 6-5 lead into a 13-6 advantage in taking control of the first set.

A kill from Mackenzie Dear, who added eight kills for the match, gave Conway a 21-9 lead on its way to the game one win.

Brinkley had a kill and a pair of aces in game two as the Lady Wampus Cats pulled ahead by double digits. Brinkley and Anna Lee Drennan teamed up for a block, and Maddie Hefner tipped one past the Siloam Springs block for the final points of the game two win.

Conway found itself in a battle in game three and called timeout when Siloam Springs pulled within 16-14 after an ace. But the Lady Wampus Cats responded with a 7-0 run to go up 21-14 and re-establish their grip on the match.

"You have to give them credit," said Siloam Springs coach Rose Cheek-Willis. "They're a very good team."

The Lady Panthers fell to 6-17 overall and 2-8 in conference play. Junior Madison Cooper led the Lady Panthers with four kills and two block assists. Freshman Chloe Price had 12 assists, six digs and two block assists. Senior Madisyn Fullerton led the Lady Panthers' defensively with 10 digs.

The Lady Panthers continue league play Thursday against Mount St. Mary in Little Rock, while Conway returns home to face Russellville. Russellville and Greenwood are the only teams to have beaten Conway in conference play.
