Wedding guest falls off bluff, dies

A Russellville man died late Saturday in a fall from a bluff while attending a wedding in northern Franklin County, according to a medical services official.

The body of the 27-year-old man was found early Sunday at the bottom of the 10- to 15-foot bluff behind a house where the wedding was held. Franklin County Emergency Medical Services Director Randy Boren said he couldn't release the man's name Tuesday.

Boren said the man left the celebration in the home off Redding Road near the Mulberry River on Saturday night, telling a friend he was going to his truck. Unfamiliar with the area, he fell off the bluff in the dark, according to reports.

Others at the wedding noticed him missing about 11 p.m.

He said emergency personnel received the call for help from the home about 9 a.m. Sunday. The man's body was found about an hour later.

Participating in the case, he said, were the Franklin County sheriff's office, Franklin County Emergency Medical Services, Franklin County Office of Emergency Management, and the Watalula and Barnes fire departments.
