Blytheville police shoot 2 people after vehicle chase

Blytheville police officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting early Thursday that left one critically injured, Police Chief Ross Thompson said.

Thompson said in a statement that officers attempted to stop a vehicle with three occupants for suspicious activity about 4 a.m. Thursday. The driver fled from authorities in the vehicle, and a chase began.

The Mississippi County sheriff's office assisted in the chase, which ended in a rural area east of the Blytheville city limits with shots fired by Blytheville police at two of the people in the vehicle.

One of the people was listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon. The condition of the other person who was shot was not released. A third individual was arrested without injury, Thompson said.

Thompson said all three of the occupants were not Blytheville residents, and at least one is sought on out-of-state felony warrants.

The Blytheville officers were not injured in the shooting and are on paid administrative leave pending investigations, according to police.

The identities of the people shot and and officers involved will be released at a later time, authorities said. Blytheville Police Capt. Scott Adams said he could not confirm the number of officers involved in the shooting.

Arkansas State Police and the Blytheville Police Department are investigating the shooting.
