Arkanas Index rides S&P wave as all 18 issues gain

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, rose 6.66 to 330.35 Wednesday.

"U.S. stocks moved higher on Wednesday led by a rally in biotech shares as the S&P 500 closed at its highest level in three weeks," said John Blackwell, senior vice president and managing director of equity trading at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

For the second time in three days, the Arkansas Index moved higher as all 18 stocks advanced.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
