VOLLEYBALL

ASU beats UALR in five sets

Arkansas State rallied to beat UALR 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-11, 15-4) on Wednesday night at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock.

Carlisa May had 26 kills to lead the Red Wolves (16-1, 7-0 Sun Belt). Mallory Warrington recorded 57 assists and 22 digs. Markie Schaedig added 22 digs.

Edina Selimovic led the Trojans (7-9, 3-3) with 13 kills. Priscila Almedia had 25 digs and Megan Mathis recorded 34 assists.

Arkansas loses at Kentucky

Arkansas (13-3, 3-1 SEC) lost its first SEC match of the season Wednesday, falling 25-23, 25-12, 25-21 at Kentucky.

Pilar Victoria led the Razorbacks with 13 kills. Monica Bollinger had 13 digs, and Chanell Clark-Bibbs had four kills.

Former PA QB Hefley honored

University of Tulsa freshman and former Pulaski Academy quarterback Will Hefley is one of five recipients of the National High School Scholar-Athlete Award, the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.

Hefley, who was chosen from the Midwest Region, had a 31 on his ACT and a 4.2 grade-point average in high school. He is majoring in biology at Tulsa and is expected to redshirt this season.

Last year Hefley passed for 4,897 yards and 62 touchdowns to lead Pulaski Academy to a Class 5A state championship. He was a member of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s All-Arkansas Preps team.

The other honorees are Boston College defensive end Zachary Allen, Army linebacker Kenneth Brinson, Northwestern wide receiver Jelani Roberts and UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen.

The NFF will present the players their awards at a luncheon Dec. 8 in New York.

UALR finishes fifth in Utah

Noah Tullos and Matias Calderon tied for eighth place and the UALR men’s golf team shot a combined 1-under 851 to finish fifth at the Utah Invitational on Tuesday in Park City, Utah. The Trojans finished behind tournament winner Houston

(824), Utah State (837), Weber State (847) and Utah (849). Tullos and Calderon both shot 4-under par to finish in a tie for eighth. Tullos shot a final-round 2-over 73 on Tuesday, while Calderon shot an even-par 71.

UALR’s Brady Edwards jumped 12 spots on the final day with a 4-under 67 and tied for 13th at 2 over. Beau Hanson finished 3 over following a final-round 1-under 70.
