North Little Rock man arrested in rape of 8-month-old

A North Little Rock man has been arrested on a charge of rape involving an 8-month-old toddler, according to the Pulaski County sheriff's office.

Authorities said Terence Callihan, 34, admitted to inappropriately touching the child in September, saying the act happened one time while he was the toddler's babysitter during the parents' work day.

The toddler's mother told Arkansas State Police that the child's grandmother noticed signs of rape during a diaper change after the child had been dropped off at the grandmother's house in Stuttgart later that day.

According to the sheriff's office, the grandmother took the toddler to Arkansas Children's Hospital for testing, which confirmed that the child was touched inappropriately.

Callihan was the only person the toddler was with before going to the grandmother's house, the child's mother said.

He was booked at the Pulaski County jail about 4:30 p.m. Thursday and is being held on $150,000 bond, according to jail records.
