A Christmas Story Auditions

SEARCY — Auditions for roles in A Christmas Story will be held at 6 p.m. at the Center on the Square theater. All materials will be provided. There are roles for two adult males, two adult females, five young boys and two young girls, plus numerous extra children. Performance dates are Dec. 4-6, 11-13 and 18-20. Tri the Lake Triathlon

HEBER SPRINGS — The Tri the Lake Triathlon will be held from 6-11:45 a.m. at Sandy Beach. The triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim, a 13-mile bicycle ride and a 3.4-mile run.

Knights of Columbus Council Open House

HORSESHOE BEND — Knights of Columbus Council 10493 will hold an open house for the public at 5:30 p.m. on the lower level of St. Mary of the Mount Church on the corner of First and Church streets. Snacks will be served.

Pancake Breakfast

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy Alumni and Thrivent Action Team will have a pancake breakfast, a silent auction and a charitable-donation drawing for the Jacksonville Police Department Student Resource Officer Program from 8-10 a.m. in the FEMA Room of the Jacksonville Police Department. James Staats, the Golden Corral staff and Starbucks will furnish the breakfast and coffee.

John 3:16 Variety Night

BATESVILLE — The 10th annual John 3:16 Variety Night will begin at 3 p.m. in the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville’s Independence Hall, 2005 White Drive. Chili Supper

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The semiannual Cherokee Village United Methodist Men Chili Supper will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. Meals are $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. Tickets can be purchased from any United Methodist Men member. The meal includes pie furnished by the United Methodist Women and a drink. Tickets purchased for the Feb. 21 chili supper, which was canceled because of inclement weather, will be honored at Saturday’s event. The church is at the intersection of Otter and Keno drives.

Gallery Exhibition

BATESVILLE — A group exhibition titled Friends of the Batesville Area Arts Council is on display through Nov. 14 at the Batesville Area Arts Council Gallery on Main, 226 E. Main St. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Angel Tree Applications

BATESVILLE — The United Way of North Central Arkansas is accepting applications for its Angel Tree Program, which provides eligible children with Christmas gifts. Parents/guardians may pick up applications from the Department of Human Services, 100 Weaver Ave., or the United Way office in the First Community Bank building, Southside Branch, at 1 Allen Chapel Road. Completed applications are due Oct. 30. To be eligible for the program, children must be ages 2-10 and live in the home listed; and the household must be a participant in S.N.A.P. (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program). Names will be available to purchase gifts for the Angels from Nov. 17 through Dec. 7. Printmaking Exhibition

BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Art Department will display the artwork of the Arkansas Society of Printmakers in an exhibit titled Printmaking: Investigation and Imagination at the England Center Art Gallery through Oct. 29. The Arkansas Society of Printmakers is a community of artists, art collectors and supporters of the art of printmaking. Introduction to Computers Course

MAMMOTH SPRING— Ozarka College will offer a six-week Introduction to Computers continuing-education course at the Mammoth Spring campus. Topics will include Microsoft Windows, Internet search and navigation, saving/managing files on a computer, email, sending attachments, uploading photos, Facebook basics, eBay and Craigslist. GED/Adult Education Classes

FLORAL — The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville Adult Education Department is partnering with Midland Elementary School to offer classes from 3-5 p.m. Mondays in the computer lab on the elementary campus in Floral. Instruction in reading, math, writing and computer literacy skills is designed for adults who want to obtain a high school diploma, prepare for the Compass test, acquire a Career Readiness Certificate or learn to use a computer. Second Time Around Bookstore

SEARCY — The Literacy Council of White County operates the Second Time Around Bookstore at 811 S. Main St., Suite D. Proceeds from the sale of donated books support the mission of helping adults in the community improve their literacy and English-language skills. Yoga in the Gallery
