The wine was flowing freely Oct. 1 at Dickey-Stephens Park, and no -- the Arkansas Travelers weren't in town.
Instead, friends and supporters of the American Heart Association of Central Arkansas gathered for Festival of Wines. Forty tables of wine were set up along the concourse as well as food from 15 Little Rock restaurants. Guests sipped wines from countries around the globe such as Italy, France, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Spain and Argentina.
The event featured a silent auction as well as live painting by Vickie Hendrix-Siebenmorgen. Susan and Andrew Meadors were chairmen of the event. Susan's family has a history of heart disease and stroke. Andrew's brother, Fred, is a cardiovascular surgeon.
In its 12th year, about 1,300 people attended the wine tasting, raising around $165,000. Presenting sponsors were CHI St. Vincent, Moon and Central Distributors, TRG Foundation, KATV, Channel 7, and radio station KLAL-FM, ALICE 107.7.
