A man wanted in a California stabbing death case was arrested Oct. 6 in Glenwood and awaits extradition, according to the Pike County sheriff's office.

Jimmy Ray Ramos, 30, of Porterville, Calif., was held at the Pike County jail after authorities received a call from a California-based homicide investigator who informed the sheriff's office of Ramos' possible whereabouts in Glenwood.

After the call and receiving supplemental materials regarding Ramos, the sheriff's office said it initiated a search through the formation of a tactical response unit.

"With tremendous community effort involved in identifying the individual as he had been seen around town, officers confirmed the location of the wanted subject," authorities said in a statement.

Ramos, who had an outstanding warrant in California with a $1 million bond, was located at a Glenwood residence he was using as a "safe haven," the sheriff's office said.

Several agencies including the Glenwood Police Department, Arkansas State Police and medical personnel assisted.

Authorities said no one was injured during the arrest.
