LITTLE ROCK — Former federal prosecutor Conner Eldridge is kicking off his bid to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. John Boozman with an event this weekend.

Eldridge on Saturday plans to formally begin his campaign at his family's farm supply company in Augusta, where he spent his early youth. Eldridge said last month he was seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Boozman, who was first elected in 2010.

Eldridge stepped down in August as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, a post he had held since 2010, as he prepared to announce his Senate bid.

Eldridge is running in a state where Republicans have swept statewide and federal offices in recent elections by tying Democrats to President Barack Obama, who remains deeply unpopular in Arkansas.
