Southern Arkansas University trustees approve dorm project

MAGNOLIA — The Southern Arkansas University Board of Trustees has approved a $12 million plan to build two new residence halls on campus.

SAU President Trey Berry told board members Tuesday that the university is "bursting at the seams." The latest enrollment numbers show a 16.7 percent increase in the student population over last year.

The school said construction is scheduled to begin at the end of this month. The project will include two dormitories with 132 beds each. They will be built at the north entrance of the campus in Magnolia.

Berry said the school is hopeful that the residence halls will be open by next fall.
