Micro Plastics opening Melbourne plant, creating 79 jobs

Flippin-based Micro Plastics will open a manufacturing plant in Melbourne, creating 79 jobs in the area as part of a $2.4 million investment, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission said Thursday.

Production is set to begin at the plant in the first quarter of 2016, according to a statement.

“For almost half a century, Micro Plastics has been a leader in the plastics sector,” Gov. Asa Hutchinson said in the statement. “When the company moved their headquarters from Illinois to Arkansas, they were looking for a location and workforce that would foster continued success. They found that here.”

Micro Plastics, which employs 387 people at its Flippin plant, produces threaded nylon fasteners.

The job creation announcement wasn't the only one made Thursday by the commission.

Earlier in the day, 225 additional jobs over the next five years were announced for Baxter International Inc.'s manufacturing plant in Mountain Home.
