Gov. Hutchinson proposes Medicaid payment integrity unit

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is announcing a new unit aimed at improving the financial integrity of the state's Medicaid program by identifying sources of waste.

Hutchinson on Thursday said that the Department of Human Services and the Office of Medicaid Inspector General are — at his request — proposing a new Payment Integrity Unit. The plan calls for five new positions in DHS and two new positions at the inspector general.

The unit will focus on saving money in the program by using data and industry best practices to identify systemic sources of waste in Medicaid. DHS and the inspector general will collaborate on correcting existing policies, new training for staff and addressing shortcomings in the current claim processing procedures.
