Entergy asks to build 2 transmission lines

Entergy Arkansas is seeking approval from the Arkansas Public Service Commission to build two 450-foot 161-kilovolt transmission lines near Balch, about 15 miles east of Newport.

If approved by the commission, the lines will connect to the Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Corp.'s Balch substation. The lines will connect the Balch substation to Entergy's Newport-to-Parkin transmission line.

Entergy anticipates the lines will be in service by April 1. The projected life expectancy for the lines is 40 years.

Entergy has about 700,000 customers in Arkansas. It owns and operates more than 3,700 miles of transmission lines of 161 kilovolts or lower.
