Arkansas State’s Markie Schaedig and Carlisa May were named defensive player of the week and freshman of the week, respectively, by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.
Schaedig had 55 digs in the Red Wolves’ three victories at the Red Hawk Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She had 14 in a 3-0 victory over Southeast Missouri State and 21 against Missouri-Kansas City.
She also added 20 digs in a 3-0 victory over Saint Louis on Saturday and was named to the all-tournament team.
May had 30 kills in eight sets, averaging 3.75 kills per set with a .379 hitting percentage. She had eight against Southeast Missouri State and 11 against Missouri-Kansas City on a .429 hitting percentage. She also had 11 against Saint Louis.
