Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said Tuesday that Act 137 of 2015 "renders unenforceable" five ordinances that protect members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community from discrimination.

"Because current state law does not prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, it is my opinion that Act 137 renders the five ordinances unenforceable in this respect," Rutledge's opinion, in response to a question from state Rep. Bob Ballinger, R-Hindsville, states.

The ordinances mentioned were passed in Little Rock, Fayetteville, Hot Springs, Eureka Springs and Pulaski County.
