Six Arkansans named Black Hall of Fame inductees

The Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation announced its 2015 inductees Tuesday, a selection of six Arkansans in education, sports and the arts.

The 2015 inductees are:

• Dr. Eddie Reed of Heth, cancer physician and researcher;

• Luenell Batson of Tollette, actress and comedian;

• Mildred Barnes Griggs of Marianna, educator and home economics pioneer;

• Cortez Kennedy of Osceola, former NFL defensive tackle;

• Bishop Donne Lee Lindsey Sr. of Bluff City, civil leader;

• C. Michael Tidwell of Little Rock, dancer, choreographer and art educator.

“These individuals represent just a fraction of the number of African-Americans from the state of Arkansas who have excelled in their respective fields. Most Arkansans do not know who they are," Charles Stewart, chairman of the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement.

Inductees will be honored during the 23rd annual Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock.

The event is also a fundraiser benefiting nonprofit organizations in the state that serve the black community.

More information about the induction ceremony is available at the foundation's website or by calling (501) 425-5998.
