U.S. markets recover a day after big plunge

NEW YORK — U.S. stocks are moving broadly higher as the market bounces back from a plunge the day before.

The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 128 points, or 0.8 percent, to 16,186 as of 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index increased 12 points, or 0.7 percent, to 1,926. The Nasdaq composite gained 48 points, or 1 percent, to 4,684.

The Dow sank almost 470 points the day before as traders worried about more signs of weakness in China's economy.
