Gem and Mineral Club Program

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The Spring River Gem and Mineral Club will hold its September program, Minerals in Arkansas Made a Difference, by Lisa Perry, at 10 a.m. at the Omaha Center, 20 Omaha Circle. BATESVILLE — The Batesville Kiwanis Club will meet at noon at the First Baptist Church Annex, adjacent to First Baptist Church, 610 Main St. Lauren Willette, who will become director of the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project in October, will be the guest speaker. The Literacy Project teaches reading and English-language skills to adults. Solemn Old Judge Days

MAMMOTH SPRING — The 26th Solemn Old Judge Days will be held both days, beginning with a free gospel sing at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 in the multipurpose building on the Mammoth Spring School campus. On Sept. 5, a 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Mammoth Spring campus of Ozarka College will start at 7:30 a.m. at Mammoth Spring State Park. A pancake breakfast will be served, starting at 6:30 a.m., by the Mammoth Spring Volunteer Fire Department at the fire station. Donations will be taken. The Antique Car Show will be held Saturday in Mammoth Spring State Park, and crafters and games will be available on Main Street. Davidsonville Legacy Weekend

POCAHONTAS — In honor of Davidsonville Historic State Park’s creation and more than 50 years of service, activities will be held at the park during Labor Day weekend. Events will include town-site tours, hikes, programs focusing on the park and its history, and free homemade ice cream. Campsites are available for the weekend. AARP Smart Driver Course

SEARCY — The PrimeTimes of White County Medical Center, now Unity Health, 3214 E. Race Ave., will host an AARP Smart Driver Course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hubach Center. Park behind the hospital off Moore Street, and use the elevator to go to the first floor. The room is chilly, so attendees may want to bring jackets. The instructor is Jerry Yates. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members with an AARP card and $20 for nonmembers. Participants ages 55 and older who complete the course will be eligible for a three-year discount on their auto-insurance premiums in Arkansas. Labor Day Weekend Concert

KidStage Registration

SEARCY — KidStage will have students produce two one-act plays. Classes will begin Tuesday and Sept. 10. Second through sixth grades will have class from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and will perform Alice, and seventh through 12th grades will meet from 4-6 p.m. Thursdays and will perform Through the Looking Glass. Each session costs $75. Performance dates are Nov. 12-14. There will be a parents meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. FLORAL — The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville Adult Education Department is partnering with Midland Elementary School to offer classes from 3-5 p.m. Mondays in the computer lab on the elementary campus in Floral. Instruction in reading, math, writing and computer literacy skills will be available, designed for adults who want to obtain a high school diploma, prepare for the Compass test to enroll in college, acquire a Career Readiness Certificate, or learn computer-literacy skills. Lyon College Faculty Exhibition, Reception and Artists’ Talk

BATESVILLE — The Lyon College Kresge Gallery, in the historic Alphin building, has opened the 2015-2016 season with the Faculty Exhibition, featuring work from Dustyn Bork, associate professor of art, and Sarah Martin, newly appointed artist in residence. The exhibition will remain in the gallery until Sept. 18. The gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday through Friday. BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Art Department will display the artwork of Nancy Dunaway through Sept. 28 in the England Center Art Gallery at ASU-Beebe. A cooks meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 12, and the cook-off’s official start time is 9 a.m. Each contestant must cook 2 gallons of chili, and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places.

Fundraiser Concert

BATESVILLE — The Ozark Foothills FilmFest will hold its annual fundraising event at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at Elizabeth’s Restaurant. Proceeds from Steppin’ Out With the Side Street Steppers will support the annual film festival and the annual T Tauri Movie Camp, a summer artist residency project offering video production workshops for kids and teens. Geocache Scavenger Hunt

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will host a geocache scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 in the park.
