A Centerton woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a vehicle crash in Benton County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.
Barbara J. Pahnke, 66, was stopped facing north in an inside eastbound lane on U.S. 71B at Southeast Walton Boulevard in Bentonville about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday when her vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle attempting to swerve to the outside lane, authorities said.
According to the report, Pahnke put her vehicle in reverse to get out of the roadway.
She was taken to Northwest Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said.
The driver of the second vehicle was not named in the state police report.
Light rain had fallen at the time of the accident, though road conditions were described as dry.
The death was the 341st in a traffic crash so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
