El Dorado shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

A 39-year-old man faces a first-degree murder charge after a fatal Wednesday night shooting in El Dorado, police said.

El Dorado police said the shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at 603 Bruster Ave., leaving a 23-year-old man dead and a 24-year-old man injured.

Derrick Dixon, who is being held at the Union County jail without bond, also faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm, according to police.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

The injured man remained in the hospital as of Thursday afternoon for a gunshot wound to his neck, authorities said.

Names of the victims have not been released, though a spokesman with the El Dorado Police Department said that information could be released later in the day Thursday or sometime Friday.

The spokesman added that police are still investigating a possible motive behind the shooting.
