Hispanic heritage

Norteno band Los Invasores de Nuevo Leon will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Timberwood Amphitheater at Magic Springs Water & Theme Park, 1701 E. Grand Ave. (U.S. 70 East), Hot Springs. The concert is part of a day-long celebration at the park of Hispanic Heritage Month that will also include a Mariachi band "and other special activities." Historic church

Shiloh Baptist Church, 1200 Hanger St., Little Rock, will be the focus of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's next "Sandwiching in History" lecture and tour, noon Friday. 'Delta Rediscovered'

"Delta Rediscovered: Arkansas County, 1880-1924," a statewide traveling exhibit of photographs from Arkansas County (circa 1880-1924), goes on display at 5 p.m. Friday at Linda Palmer Gallery, 800 B Central Ave., Hot Springs. The reception, part of the city's First Friday Gallery Walk, will feature light hors d'oeuvres and a chance to meet and talk with curator Denise White Parkinson. Admission is free. Parkinson will also be on hand for a second special showing, 3-6 p.m. Sept. 12. The exhibition consists of 20 black-and-white photos that Parkinson enlarged and restored with grants from the Arkansas Department of Heritage and the Morris Foundation. Captions are by the late Hot Springs historian Lemuel Cressie "L.C." Brown Jr. The exhibition will remain up through Sept. 30 by appointment. Call (501) 620-3063.

Blytheville artworks

Approximately 70 works -- oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings; photographs; drawings and works in graphite and pencil; handmade jewelry; metal sculpture; and door wreaths and fabric art -- by more than 25 artists from around the country go on display with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the Arts Council of Mississippi County's Ritz Gallery, Ritz Civic Center, 306 W. Main St., Blytheville. Admission is free. Works on display will be for sale through a silent auction benefiting the Mississippi County Literacy Council. Russellville artworks

Sculptures and paintings by New Hampshire native -- now Arkansas resident -- Sandra Sell go on display with a cocktail reception, 5-7 p.m. today at River Valley Arts Center, 1001 E. B St., Russellville. The reception will also feature refreshments and music by Ron Hudson. The artwork will remain up through the month; gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday. Admission to reception and gallery are free. Songwriters contest

Monday is the postmark deadline to enter the Original Ozarks Folk Festival's Singer/Songwriter contest, part of the 68th annual festival, Oct. 7-10 in Eureka Springs. Send a CD with three songs, a short biography of the songwriter(s) and contact information, along with a $25 entry fee, to CAPC, Attn: Singer/Songwriter, P.O. Box 522, Eureka Springs, Ark. 72632.
