A Jonesboro police officer was injured in a head-on collision Thursday afternoon at Arkansas 351 and County Road 782 north of Jonesboro, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Jonesboro Police Department said one of the police department's officers, Cpl. David McDaniel, was involved in the two-vehicle accident. He added that the officer's injuries were not life-threatening.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler told The Associated Press that those in the second vehicle suffered serious injuries but that he did not know how many people were in the vehicle.

No fatalities had been reported after the accident.

Sadler said the driver of the second vehicle crossed the centerline on Arkansas 351 north of the city limits and collided with McDaniel's vehicle.

Police said in an alert about 1:45 p.m. Thursday that traffic was blocked in the area, calling the accident "very serious."

Jonesboro police said Arkansas State Police is the official agency investigating the crash.
