State Democrats hire new director

LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas Democrats have hired as their next executive director the former head of the Montana Democratic Party.

On Monday, party Chairman Vince Insalaco announced the party has hired Ted Dick, who has also worked for the Senate Democratic Campaign Committee, to replace Candace Martin.

Martin was a party spokesman for nearly two years before becoming its executive director in January 2013. She's moving out of the state next month with her fiancee. Dick will start Tuesday.

Last November, Republicans swept all of the state's constitutional offices, notched majorities in both legislative chambers, and also took control of the state's congressional delegation.

A former union representative with the Service Employees International Union, Dick became Montana's executive director in 2010 and went on to lead the party to winning the state's governor's mansion as well as a U.S. Senate seat, Montana newspapers and Arkansas Democrats reported.

The party will host an open house at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at its 1300 W. Capitol Ave. headquarters, where people can meet Dick.
