A former Van Buren School District employee surrendered to police about 3 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for first-degree sexual assault of a minor student, Van Buren police said in a statement.

Katherine Eskridge, 25, is accused of having a sexual relationship with the student while employed by the school district.

The student filed a complaint with the Van Buren Police Department, according to the statement.

According to the school district, Eskridge resigned from her position Aug. 13.

"All appropriate action has been taken by the district concerning this matter and the district will have no further comment on matters involving district personnel," the Van Buren School District said in a statement.
