New Oklahoma wind farm provides electricity to Arkansas utility

HENNEPIN, Okla. — Officials have dedicated a new $250 million wind farm in south-central Oklahoma that is providing electricity to an Arkansas utility.

The 150-megawatt Origin wind farm was dedicated Wednesday during a ceremony with federal, state and tribal officials. The wind farm, owned by Enel Green Power North America Inc., began producing electricity in November.

The Oklahoman reports Origin is Enel's third wind project to start production since 2012. Its fourth, the 150-megawatt Osage Wind project, came online in July, and two more projects are in the works.

The Origin wind farm is providing electricity to Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp. under a 20-year contract. The wind farm has 75 turbines at its 18,000-acre site in Carter, Garvin and Murray counties. At full output, the farm can power more than 55,000 homes.
