Dates set for two at UAM campus

A chancellor search committee for the University of Arkansas at Monticello has set dates for when two finalists will visit.

Ty Handy, the president of Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Fla., will visit the campus Sept. 14 and 15. Karla Hughes, the executive vice president and provost of the University of Louisiana System in Baton Rouge, will visit Sept. 24 and 25.

The university will host receptions for the finalists and their spouses on their first visiting day from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. The receptions, which are open to the public, will be in the Spencer Gallery of the Fine Arts Center.

Both candidates will make a presentation after the reception, according to a news release.

The two are vying for the chancellor's position vacated by Jack Lassiter. Lassiter, 69, retired Jan. 5 after leading the university for nearly a decade. He earned $196,974 annually.

Jay Jones, UA Monticello's vice chancellor for finance and administration, has been serving as interim chancellor since Lassiter's retirement.
