The Democrat-Gazette reported that Hugh McCoy, 42, of Little Rock was arrested Thursday and charged with terroristic threatening after making multiple threats to "conduct an active shooter incident" at the university, according to an arrest report.

Chancellor Joel Anderson said in a statement posted to the school's website that "there is not and has not been an immediate danger of the UALR campus from the individual named Hugh McCoy."

Anderson said the school and Little Rock police were notified by a health care center earlier in the week of the threats purportedly made by McCoy. Since then, the school and police had been working on the case.

McCoy has never been enrolled or employed at UALR, and on Friday, an order was issued restricting him from UALR and all University of Arkansas campuses, the statement said.

McCoy was still listed on Pulaski County jail's inmate roster Friday night. He was being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

Anderson said the university will continue to stay involved "over the coming weeks and months in order to assure the safety of the campus from this person."

"Sadly, it seems we live in a time when theaters, elementary schools, churches, and college campuses are vulnerable to random acts of violence," Anderson said in the statement. "I am grateful that through the teamwork of all involved, this matter has been kept under control and we can continue to go about our business as usual."
