Puppy Creek Road closure set

FAYETTEVILLE -- Work on the U.S. 412 Northern Bypass around Springdale will require the temporary closure of Puppy Creek Road to through traffic, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

Starting Wednesday, temporary barricades will be installed to restrict traffic in both directions on Puppy Creek Road. The closures will begin west of Sharp Springs Road and end near the intersection with Willard Lane. Through traffic can use Spring Creek Road, which connects to Arkansas 264, as an alternate route.

The closure is required to build the new Puppy Creek Road, which will be north of and parallel to the new bypass. The re-aligned Puppy Creek Road will connect with the Sharp Springs Road and East Brown Road intersection, forming a new four-way stop. South of the bypass, the existing Puppy Creek Road will end in a cul-de-sac.

Construction of the new Puppy Creek Road is expected to be completed by mid-October, weather permitting.

Advance warning signs will be placed to notify motorists approaching the closures. Barricades will be placed at the points of closure. Areas beyond the barricades are an active work zone and moving or driving around the barricades places the driver in the work zone which could endanger the driver and the road crews, according to highway officials.
