Police release identity of man stabbed to death in Fayetteville park

FAYETTEVILLE — Police on Thursday released the name of a 58-year-old man who was stabbed to death at Walker Park last month.

Police found the body of Anthony Dell Jackson under a pavilion around 11:15 p.m. Aug. 31 at the park, 10 W. 15th St., according to a previously released preliminary police report. The death was violent, police said.

Jackson had been stabbed around the neck and head, police spokesman Sgt. Craig Stout said previously.

Police waited several days to release Jackson’s name pending notification of family, Stout said in email Thursday. Jackson’s family members were found in Louisiana, he said.

Jimmy Lee Hancock, 46, was arrested the same night as the killing and booked Sept. 1 into the Washington County Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree murder, terroristic threatening, aggravated assault and public intoxication, a misdemeanor offense.

Hancock was found near a knife and Jackson’s body, according to the police report. He appeared to have blood on him, according to the report.

Both Jackson and Hancock were homeless, police said.

Hancock remained Thursday at the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $250,000 bond. His next court date is set for Oct. 2, according to online records.
