What does it do: The small unit, when connected to an HDTV antenna and a USB hard drive, allows the user with a free app to enjoy shows on a tablet or computer and record or watch up to two shows at the same time. Depending on the quality of the Wi-Fi network, shows can be streamed on up to six devices at the same time. It can be placed anywhere in the home for best HDTV reception. The Tablo sells for $219.99 and comes with a free 30-day data guide subscription, which offers episode and series synopses. It sells for $4.99 a month, but is not a requirement for using the Tablo. What's to love: Know how you are supposed to change the filter on your home's heat and air units every month, but you often forget? This subscription service automatically sends the correct filter to your home when it's time to install a new one, making it easy to perform this chore.

What does it do: FilterSnap offers three options: basic for nonsmoking, allergy-free homes; standard for homes with smokers, multiple pets or folks with minor allergies; and ultimate, for families with major allergies or asthma.
