Fundraiser includes auction, Mermaid

Disney's The Little Mermaid will be performed at the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce's "A Night at the Rep" on Dec. 1 at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, 601 Main St. in Little Rock, chamber officials announced.

The evening will begin with a silent auction and reception followed by the performance at 7 p.m.

The production is based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and the Disney animated film. Songs will include "Under the Sea" and "Part of Your World."

This will be the 17th year the chamber has sponsored a theatrical presentation at The Rep as a fundraiser. The event raises money to support the chamber's educational programs, including Arkansas Scholars and scholarships for local high school students.

The chamber is accepting donations for the silent auction. Electronic devices, sports memorabilia, vacation packages, sports and cultural event tickets, original artwork and gift certificates are among items recommended as donations.

Tickets are $45 and include food and drinks. More information on tickets and donations is available from the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce at (501) 372-5959.

Veterans, families invited to meeting

A Veterans Administration town-hall meeting is set for 4:30-6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the William F. Laman Public Library, 2801 Orange St., North Little Rock.

The meeting is meant to provide veterans, their families, and others an open forum to express concerns and to hear updates regarding health care and other benefits.

Discussion topics will include the MyVA initiative, the Choice Program and the Vets.gov website.

City will sell land for new apartments

City Council members approved the sale of city-owned, vacant property at the 800 block of Maple Street for expansion of the Argenta Flats apartments.

Aldermen voted 7-0 Monday to sell the 44,000-square-foot parcel between Eighth and Ninth streets for $319,000 to Argenta Flats LLC, owned and managed by Salter Properties of Conway. The property was appraised for $320,000, according to the resolution. Alderman Maurice Taylor was absent from the City Council meeting.

Applicable closing costs and a real estate commission of $9,750 will come out of the sale price, according to the legislation.

Argenta Flats apartments opened last fall along the east side of Maple Street between Fifth and Sixth streets and between Sixth and Seventh streets, one block west of Main Street in the Argenta Historic District.

Event to provide taste of local fare
