Orchid Ensemble

The Orchid Ensemble -- Lan Tung, erhu (Chinese violin); Yu-Chen Wang, zheng (Chinese zither) and Jonathan Bernard, percussion -- will blend traditional Chinese music with world music, new music, jazz and creative improvisation in a concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the Administration Auditorium, Harding University, Searcy. Spanish pianist

Pianist Fermin Bernetxea, a faculty member of the Pablo Sarasate Conservatory in Pamplona, Spain, will give a recital of music by Spanish composers, 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, Fine Arts Building, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. The program will include Basque Preludes by Aita Donostia, a Prelude by Joaquin Larregla, Esquisses d'un apres-midi basque by Emiliana de Zubledia and, by Manuel de Falla, "Andaluza" from Four Spanish Pieces, "Dance" from La Vida Breve and Fantasia Baetica. Mini grants

The Arkansas Arts Council is accepting applications for its Arts in Education and Arts for Lifelong Learning programs, providing funding for up to 10-day residencies for artists listed on the Arts Council's Arts in Education artist roster between Oct. 1 and Aug. 31. The former program provides funding for pre-K-12 school and community organizations; the latter will make possible "quality arts learning experiences" for adults. Applicants must show a 1:1 match of cash and/or in-kind contributions; the grants are available until the money is spent or Aug. 31, whichever happens first.
