Reddies receive GAC honors

Henderson State’s Gary Vines and Corey Chappell were named defensive player and special teams player of the week by the Great American Conference on Monday.

Vines, a defensive back, had nine tackles and three pass break-ups in a 25-17 victory against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Chappell had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the victory.

ASU leading Memphis, UALR

Arkansas State led after the first two rounds of the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club in Memphis on Monday.

The Red Wolves shot a 2-under-par 574 through the first two rounds and leads Memphis by one stroke and UALR, which is tied with Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb in third place, by five strokes.

ASU’s top player was Trent Jones, who was tied for seventh with a 2-under 142. Seth Garner and Oswin Schlenkrich are tied for 10th at 143. UALR’s Matias Calderon and Tyler Reynodls are tied for 14th with even-par 144s.

Central Arkansas was eighth at 585. UCA’s Luis Oblois was tied for third with a 6-under 138. Alvaro Carol Esterms shot a 2-under 142 and was tied for seventh.

Cincinnati’s Davis Baxter led with a 10-under-par 134.

Henderson State leads in Oklahoma

Henderson State shot a 589 and led after Monday’s opening two rounds of the Northeastern State University Golf Classic in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Reddies led Arkansas Tech by two strokes. Southwestern Oklahoma State was in third at 596, while Harding was tied for fourth at 597.

Henderson State’s Drew Greenwood was the tournament leader with a 5-under-par 142. Arkansas Tech’s Bryce Burk was second with a 142.

Arkansas’ Valle receives SEC honor

Arkansas libero Okiana Valle was named SEC freshman of the week Monday.

Valle led the Razorbacks by averaging 3.92 digs per set during Friday and Saturday’s Creighton Classic, highlighted by a 26-dig performance in a victory against Kansas State. She had a match-high 17 digs in a victory against No. 11 Wisconsin.

ASU’s May, UALR’s Selimovic earn Sun Belt honors

Arkansas State’s Carlissa May was named freshman of the week and UALR’s Edina Selimovic was named offensive player of the week by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.

May led the Red Wolves with 26 kills and hit .377 against South Alabama and Troy. She is second on the team with 141 kills and second in hitting percentage at .312.

Selimovic had 17 kills and a .577 hitting percentage in a victory against Georgia Southern on Friday night.

GAC announces players of the week

Abby Pickett of Ouachita Baptist and Sarita Stegall of Arkansas Tech were named offensive player of the week and setter of the week, respectively, by the Great American Conference.

Pickett had 22 kills in the Lady Tigers’ sweep of Arkansas-Monticello and hit .474 in the match.

Stegall had the game-winning aces in the Golden Suns’ victory against Southern Arkansas and earned all-tournament honors in the GAC/MIAA crossover Friday and Saturday.

Lyon’s Ray earns conference honor

Lyon College’s Jonathan Ray was named the men’s offensive player of the week and Lyon’s Anna Waldman was named women’s offensive player of the week by the American Midwest Conference Monday.

Ray had the game-winning assist in a 1-0 victory over John Brown on Saturday. He also also had a goal and two assists against Central Baptist College.

Waldman scored three goals in a 6-0 victory against Central Baptist and had two goals in a 3-2 victory against Bethel (Tenn.) on Sunday.
