Officers arrived at 1:26 a.m. at 1515 W. 19th St., where they found a "large pool of blood" and several bullet casings, according to police spokesman officer Richard Hilgeman.

Officers soon learned that Brian Edward Shields, 38, of Little Rock had been shot multiple times and had been taken by private vehicle to Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Shields, also known as "BK" and "Brant," later died of his injuries, according to reports.

Police said two men who drove Shields to the hospital spoke to investigators. Jason Davenport and Chris Alexander, both 39, told investigators that they were sitting near the curb at the address on West 19th Street when Shields drove up. The men said someone else drove up soon afterward, walked toward Shields and started shooting.

The shooter said, "What's up, BK?" and then opened fire, officers were told.

Davenport and Alexander drove Shields to the hospital in Alexander's 1995 Cadillac DeVille, which police impounded as evidence, according to a police report.

No description of the gunman or his vehicle was available.

Police spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan said investigators needed to "follow up on some loose ends" before releasing that information. He said other details about the shooting, such as a motive, weren't being released either.

"On this one, we're not getting a lot of cooperation right now ... so, at this point, I can't disclose what the shooting was about," McClanahan said.

The slaying is the 24th homicide of the year in Little Rock.

No arrests had been made late Tuesday.
