Nucor-Yamato investing $75M in Blytheville steel mill

Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. said Friday it will install a $75 million quench and self-tempering process at its steel mill in Blytheville.

The process will be used to produce "high-strength, low-alloy grade chemistry" steel sections that provide "excellent weldability while achieving good toughness at low temperatures," according to a statement.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson and John Ferriola, chairman, president and CEO of Nucor, will speak on the investment Friday afternoon at the Blytheville steel mill.

"Nucor has been an important part of Arkansas' economy for almost three decades, and this investment shows their continued commitment to our state," Hutchinson said in a statement.

According to Nucor-Yamato, the process is expected to be commissioned during the second half of 2016.

Nucor-Yamato is a joint venture between Nucor Corp. and Yamato Kogyo Co.
