El Dorado's Anthony Thomas rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns in his first varsity start Friday as the Wildcats blanked Little Rock Hall 29-0 in the conference opener for both teams at Memorial Stadium in El Dorado.
"I'm happy. It's homecoming. We had a good crowd and we had a lot of kids do some good things. We got another shutout, which is awesome. Our defense hung in there," El Dorado Coach Scott Reed said. "Hall is a little better than they have been. I knew watching on film they had some players. And, they played hard against us. My hat's off to them."
Thomas had a career-high 19 carries in place of senior Kawon Love, who sat out the game. Thomas had runs of 42 and 23 yards in the third quarter before the reserves took over.
The Wildcats (3-1, 1-0) completed 14 of 22 passes for 205 yards. John Sixbey threw for 150, hitting on 11 of 18 attempts. Jackson Waldrum added 1 for 10 yards and Darius Holly was 2 for 3 for 45 yards.
El Dorado opened the scoring with an 88-yard drive in nine plays. Sixbey hit Blake Cunningham for 19 and found Gemetre Miller-Calloway for 31. Miller-Calloway had a 12-yard reception before Thomas scored on an 8-yard run with 5:01 left in the quarter.
The Wildcats scored again on a 63-yard drive after holding Hall (0-4, 0-1) on downs. Sixbey hit fullback Mitchell Emrich, who ran 23 yards to the 9. Sixbey scored on a 1-yard run with 2:29 left in the. Hall's Justin Walker blocked the extra point, leaving the margin at 13-0 with 2:29 left in the second quarter.
El Dorado added a 26-yard field goal by Brennan Claypoole on the final play of the half.
Thomas had a 42-yard run and then scored on a 3-yard run for a 23-0 lead with 9:05 left in the third.
El Dorado's final score was set up by Ethan Burroff's 22-yard reception and a 23-yard run by Thomas, who scored on a 3-yard run with 5:14 left in the third.
SHERIDAN 35, LAKE HAMILTON 28
PEARCY — Brockton Brown rushed for 274 yards and 3 touchdowns on 31 carries as Sheridan (3-1, 1-0 6A-South) beat Lake Hamilton (0-4, 0-1). Brown’s 9-yard touchdown run with 8:20 left broke a 28-28 tie. The senior running back also scored on runs of 2 and 57 yards for the Yellowjackets, who won at Lake Hamilton for the first time since 1990. Sheridan led 20-14 at halftime behind touchdown runs by Emmanuel Wheeler (19 yards) and Brown (2 and 57 yards). Wheeler’s 65-yard run extended the Yellowjackets’ lead to 28-14 with 9:48 left in the third quarter. The Wolves tied the game at 28-28 later in the quarter on Johnathan Buss’ 5-yard run and Eli Jackson’s 1-yard run. Wheeler finished with 93 yards and 2 touchdowns on 4 carries. Buss led the Wolves offensively, rushing for 181 yards and 1 touchdown on 31 carries.
