HUNGER ACTION BREAKFAST

Organization serves up honorees during buffet

The Hunger Action Breakfast, the culminating event of Hunger Action Month by the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, was held Tuesday at the Junior League of Little Rock building.

After enjoying a buffet catered by Trio's Restaurant, guests were welcomed by event co-chairmen Harriett Phillips and Elizabeth Small. Scott Lancaster, chief executive officer at presenting sponsor Bad Boy Mowers, told the crowd they were not just feeding hungry people but empowering them.

"There's no higher calling than that."

Afterward, several individuals and organizations were honored as hunger heroes for going above and beyond to eliminate hunger in Arkansas. Those receiving the Acting Out Against Hunger Awards were Lynn Copeland, Joe and B.J. Perez, Karolyn Taylor, state Speaker of the House Jeremy Gillam (R-Judsonia), State Rep. Charlotte V. Douglas (R-Alma), Flowers Bakery in Texarkana, Unilever of Jonesboro, Growing a Healthy Searcy County Committee, Hope Outreach New Beginnings Food Pantry, Acts of Love and Special Olympics Arkansas.

The mission of Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance is to reduce food shortage in Arkansas through direct hunger relief, education and advocacy.
