Boyfriend faces murder count day after North Little Rock woman killed

A Sherwood man was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with first-degree murder in the Sunday shooting death of his girlfriend in North Little Rock, police said.

Rafael Gonzalez, 20, of 110 Greenwood Ave. in Sherwood, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Monday at 5511 Baseline Road in Little Rock, according to an arrest report.

Gonzalez was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Service's Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force, Little Rock police and North Little Rock police detectives, said Sgt. Brian Dedrick, North Little Rock police spokesman, in an email.

Gonzalez is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the slaying of Stephanie Hernandez, 21, who was found dead Sunday evening in her residence at 16111/2 W. Long 17th St., Dedrick said. Officers responded to a shooting report at the house about 7:35 p.m. Sunday.

Gonzalez, who is also charged with felon in possession of a firearm, was being held in the Pulaski County jail Monday night with no bail set.

Hernandez's death is North Little Rock's 13th homicide of the year.
