CABOT — The Lonoke County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, 4100 Arkansas 89 S. Community Music Gathering

Saxophone Quartet Concert

BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Concert Series will present the Capitol Saxophone Quartet at 7:30 p.m. in the Owen Center Auditorium, 910 Pecan St. The quartet comprises saxophonists who are teaching faculty at outstanding music schools. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be on sale at the door one hour before showtime, and the theater will open 30 minutes before curtain call. CALICO ROCK — The Calico Rock Museum and Visitor Center, 104 Main St., will present a one-week, one-woman show by fiber artist Barbara Carlson of Calico Rock. Gem and Mineral Club Meeting

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The Spring River Gem and Mineral Club will meet at at 10 a.m. at the Omaha Center, 20 Omaha Circle. The program will be Saving What Is Important, by Edward Salo, assistant professor of history at Arkansas State University. Salo will examine the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Register of Historic Places and how they preserve the nation’s history, including archaeological sites. Fashion Gala

FAIRFIELD BAY — The 23rd annual Fashion Gala, presented by the Xi Gamma Kappa chapter, will be held at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Parish Hall, 250 Woodlawn Drive. Prizes will be on display, and raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the show. The style show will feature models wearing spring and summer fashions offered by local businesses. Opening-Night Reception

SEARCY — Center on the Square will have an opening-night reception for A Streetcar Named Desire at 6:30 p.m. Friday at 219 W. Arch Ave. The event will feature heavy appetizers and light drinks, as well as a meet-and -greet with the cast and crew. The reception costs $5. Highland Adventure Race

BATESVILLE — This year’s Arkansas Scottish Festival, set for Friday through April 10 at Lyon College, will feature the second annual Highland Adventure Race on Saturday. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m., and orientation will be at 8:30 a.m. Events will include a mile-long trail run, a mile of biking, disc golf, orienteering and kayaking. Bonus events will include a sheaf toss, an asparagus toss and highland dancing. First- through third-place prizes will be awarded. Arkansas Society of Printmakers Exhibition

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will present the Arkansas Society of Printmakers Exhibition at the BAAC Gallery on Main, 246 E. Main St., through April 23. Used Book Donations for Book Fair

BATESVILLE — The Friends of the Mabee-Simpson Library at Lyon College will have a book fair during the Arkansas Scottish Festival and need donations of used hardcover and paperback books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes and other media items. The materials may be brought to the library during its hours of operation: 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays; 1-7 p.m. Saturdays; and 2 p.m. to midnight Sundays. The book fair will be open all day Friday and Saturday, and on April 10 following the Iona worship service. All proceeds will fund library furnishings, garden maintenance and special-collections materials.

Second Time Around Bookstore’s New Hours

SEARCY — The Literacy Council of White County operates the Second Time Around Bookstore at 811 S. Main St., Suite D. Proceeds from the sale of donated books support the mission of helping adults in the community improve their literacy and English-language skills. The literacy office and store’s new hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. The bookstore is closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Yoga in the Gallery

BATESVILLE — Craig Albin will give a reading of fiction and poetry at 7:30 p.m. April 12 in the Bevens Room of Brown Chapel at Lyon College. The author of a new short-story collection, Hard Toward Home, Albin has won numerous awards for his poetry and fiction. AARP Driver Safety Course

NEWPORT — An AARP Driver Safety Course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 in Room 116 of Walton Hall at Arkansas State University-Newport.
