Jonesboro police say a man over the weekend opened fire outside a duplex with “numerous” children inside.

Authorities were called about 2:18 p.m. Sunday to the 1800 block of Fairlane Avenue regarding a man with a gun in his possession.

Lazarick Armond Brewster, 23, of Jonesboro is accused of pulling out a gun and firing one or two rounds toward his girlfriend’s 48-year-old father. The shots missed the father, police said.

At least 10 children were inside the residence at the time, according to an incident report. Their ages ranged from 1 to 10.

The father told authorities that Brewster came up to him while he was sitting on a front porch, with Brewster wanting to fight. That fight ended in shots being fired, police said.

Brewster is being held on a charge of aggravated assault at the Craighead County jail, records show.

Police said he had three outstanding warrants for failure to appear at the time of his arrest.

Brewster was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon, according to police.
