Ouachita Baptist University on Thursday said it has named a higher-education figure with extensive leadership experience as its 16th president.

Ben R. Sells was unanimously elected by the university’s board of trustees during a special-called meeting Thursday, according to a news release.

Sells previously spent more than nine years working as vice president for university advancement at Taylor University in Indiana.

He replaces Rex Horne, who resigned last year to become president of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities.

Sells will begin serving as president-elect this month and will officially start his presidency June 1, according to the university.
